Singing for your life…

Each December 30th, from noon to midnight, the First Congregational Church of Oakland, California, is the site of Sing For Your Life — a twelve-hour improvised chant by singer-participants  (that’s anyone who wants to join in) led by the members of SoVoSo. The circlesong method was developed by Bobby McFerrin with Voicestra, and the members of that group have carried it on and organized this wonderful event: a chance to sing out the old year and welcome the new. I participated in and photographed the 2004 event, the year the world was in shock from the catastrophe of the Indian Ocean tsunami.  The pictures below are from that night.

Refreshments by East Bay Food Not Bombs
Suggested Donation $10 and up, sliding scale, no-one turned away for lack of funds.
